The following are links to information on placing seniors displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

Immediate Furnished Assisted Living Apartments Available through AtriaTM

Those in Texas with vacant housing units can get listed with the TDHCA at www.tdhca.state.tx.us. You can also refer evacuees looking for housing to this list. The TDHCA phone number is (512) 475-3800.

If you need assistance, AAHSA can help you locate rooms, procure supplies and find transportation for your organization. If you have relocated, please contact AAHSA with your organization's new location, and we will circulate this information to concerned family members and friends.

If you have received Katrina evacuees, please let us know. The federal government has asked for our help in trying to keep track of evacuees’ location and needs. If you are housing Katrina evacuees at your senior housing, assisted living, or nursing facility, please email us the number of evacuees, what assistance you need, where they came from and contact information at your organization for follow-up.

For displaced elders and their family members, AAHSA and National Church Residences have launched a hotline to help low-income seniors displaced by the hurricane find transitional and permanent housing. Call (800) 401-3340 around the clock to be connected to housing resource professionals trained to evaluate and locate available affordable senior housing communities nationwide.

If you have housing or other resources to offer, you can now let us know through an NCR online database. Please use this online service to offer your support, as it allows service coordinators on the hotline to have a real-time picture of available resources.

The AAHSA Web site is updated frequently, so please visit often to find information on AAHSA members, residents and staff; relocation information; regulatory changes; government and other organizations' resources; and information about how you can help us respond to this catastrophe.

ALFA is now expanding the availability of its master listing of all assisted living communities that have offered to care for displaced residents and others in need of services. ALFA will announce the availability of this valuable resource to federal government agencies, relief agencies, and media so that they may appropriately direct inquiries.
